Alberta Provincial Development Team
The development team for 2023 will consist of up to 40 positions. Automatic selections will consist of the top male and female from each EXPERT age group 11 through 13. Athletes in the age classes consisting of 5 or less riders will be considered for Committee Selection only. Chosen athletes will be given the opportunity to attend specified races and camps. All team members are expected to carry themselves with class, maturity and decorum at all times on and off the track.
- Team Mandate: To develop Alberta's top BMX athletes at an early age so that they are competitive on the International stage.
- Team Objective: To prepare riders for the Provincial team and be competitive at National events.
- Athletes will have access to training camps and, performance-based education by Provincial coaches.
- There will be no monetary support for members for the Provincial Development Team.
- There will be no full time coaching services available for Provincial Development Team members
Team Policies:
- To be eligible for selection, athletes must be licensed members of the Alberta Bicycle Association and must carry Canadian as their Nationality on their license.
- Any additional team spots may be awarded objectively by points and subjectively at the discretion of the Selection Committee
- Athletes must be Expert racers
Selection Criteria
Athletes will receive a combined point score from each of the following events:
- Alberta Provincial Championships (this event will serve as the tie breaker, if needed)
- Alberta Cup Series (Final ranking)
- National Championships
Qualified riders with the highest number of total points may be invited to join the team.

The top athletes from each male and female age group in the 11 through 13 age classes will be offered a team position based on the above points table. All athletes interested in gaining a position on the team must submit an application as outlined below. Each class must consist of at least five (5) qualified riders to constitute a class. Qualified riders in age classes consisting of less than 5 riders will be considered for Committee Selection as opposed to Automatic Selection. Points will be earned based on the sum of the final rank in the Alberta Cup Provincial Series, Alberta Provincial Championships, and the National Championships.
Committee Selection Criteria
The following races and camps will be used to evaluate riders requesting placement on the Provincial Team. In all cases, skill, effort, dedication and desire will be a determining factor. For 2023, a maximum of 12 spots may be awarded as Committee Selections. The Committee is comprised of the Alberta Bicycle Association BMX Committee as well as one representative from team management.

Applications
All Athletes requesting a team selection must submit a written request letter and resume of race results for the 2023 (at minimum) season to the Alberta Bicycle Association. Applications for the 2023 season will be accepted until November 15, 2023. The final team will be named on or before Feb 1, 2024. If a qualified athlete declines a position on the team, that position will become a Committee Selection position based on the above guidelines. Team coaches and management reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of athletes selected, and may extend the deadline to the 2024 team at their discretion. Successful Candidates
All athletes who have been chosen to be a part of the BMX Provincial Team will be required to sign an athlete agreement before their selection is final. Any athlete who refuses to sign the athlete agreement will have their selection automatically withdrawn.
